Sometimes, a stay is more than a getaway; it’s an experience that stays with you. Our stay at Van Oys Retreat in Maastricht was just that: a perfect mix of warm hospitality, elegant design, and exceptional cuisine.
Only eight minutes from Maastricht’s historic center, Van Oys Retreat is a peaceful haven where heritage meets modern luxury. The estate features three distinctive buildings — the Château, Remise, and Carré — each with its own charm and story.
A Warm Welcome
We arrived to a warm welcome, a glass of champagne, and a delicious pastry, the perfect start to our stay.
We opted for valet parking (€25) for convenience, though self-parking is just as easy. The lot is less than a minute’s drive away.
Our suite, located in the Château, radiated charm and sophistication. The spacious two-room suite offered comfort and elegance, with thoughtful touches throughout. The turn-down service was impeccable, complete with fresh cookies and fine chocolates replenished twice during our stay.

A Feast for the Senses
It’s no secret that Van Oys Retreat is fast becoming one of the Netherlands’ top culinary destinations. During our stay, we dined at Create by Guido Braeken and Maes by Raymond Remmen — both unforgettable experiences.
Our lunch at Create was truly exceptional. Every dish showcased refinement, creativity, and perfect balance. It was no surprise when, just two weeks after our stay, Create was awarded two Michelin stars (October 6, 2025 — only six months after opening). An extraordinary and well-deserved achievement.
At Restaurant Maes – cuisine du terroir by Raymond Remmen, we enjoyed a beautiful tribute to local ingredients and authentic flavors. Between meals, we relaxed at the Cesar Wine Bar, where each glass of wine paired effortlessly with the elegant, inviting atmosphere.
Details that Delight
Beyond its exceptional dining, Van Oys Retreat shines through its attention to detail. Every space feels thoughtfully designed, sophisticated yet welcoming, luxurious yet never pretentious.
Electric charging stations are planned, and a luxurious spa is set to open in December 2025, further enhancing the comfort and relaxation of the experience.
For those wishing to explore Maastricht, the retreat offers a special touch: its own Maybach house car, an elegant and indulgent way to travel, available upon request.
A Place to Return To
In every way, Van Oys Retreat captures the essence of understated luxury and genuine warmth. It’s a place where time slows down, every meal tells a story, and every guest feels truly cared for.
We left feeling inspired, relaxed, and already planning our return, especially once the Spa opens. Whether you’re a fine dining enthusiast, a seeker of serenity, or simply someone who values exceptional hospitality, Van Oys Retreat deserves a spot on your travel list.
Highly recommended for those who appreciate comfort, culinary excellence, and heartfelt service — and a perfect stay for TEFAF Art Fair visitors.
