There are weekends away… and then there are Savoy weekends.

I recently (January 2026) spent a musical-filled London escape at The Savoy with my oldest daughter (21), and it was one of those stays that remind you why certain hotels are simply iconic.

Our Room at The Savoy

We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms, and it was absolutely beautiful, elegant, calm, and thoughtfully designed, with that unmistakable Savoy charm.

The renovation program is ongoing, with all rooms and suites scheduled for completion by June 2026. If our room is anything to go by, guests can expect something very special.

After full days in the city (and late nights at the theater), coming back to such a serene and luxurious space felt like a true treat.

Dining & Downtime

The Gallery, The Savoy’s all-day dining space, is as stunning as it is delicious. It’s the kind of place where you want to linger, perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a relaxed dinner between shows.

One of our highlights was the 15-meter indoor pool. With cold London weather outside, the pool was set at a cozy 31°C, complete with a jetstream, ideal for unwinding after a long day. The temperature adjusts based on the weather, making it feel especially thoughtful and indulgent.

And then there’s Scoff—a must-try. Freshly baked scones are served daily from 12:04 PM to 6:00 PM, and yes, they are every bit as good as they sound.

The Savoy London is also home to three Gordon Ramsay restaurants: Restaurant 1890, Savoy Grill, and The River Restaurant.

Theater, Theater, Theater

The Savoy’s location is unbeatable for theater lovers.

  • Paddington: The Musical is held at the Savoy Theatre, right next door to the hotel

  • SIX is just across the street

  • And being steps from Covent Garden puts you in the heart of London’s cultural scene

Paddington: The Musical completely exceeded our expectations. It was heartwarming, funny, and beautifully produced, with fantastic music, cast, and set design. Paddington himself? Too cute for words.

A small note for parents: while there were many young children at the 7 PM evening show, I personally wouldn’t recommend it for kids under 7, it can be a bit scary in parts (we heard children crying). I’d say 9 and up is ideal. As adults without kids, we absolutely loved it.

A lovely Savoy Theater touch: our interval drinks and snacks were delivered directly to our seats.

Perfect for Families (and Grown-Up Getaways Too)

The Savoy offers many interconnecting room options, making it an excellent choice for families who want space without sacrificing style. Whether you’re traveling with younger children or adult kids like I was, it works beautifully.

Paddington the Experience, Our Honest Take

We also visited Paddington the Experience, and while it was charming, it didn’t quite live up to our expectations. That said, I think this had a lot to do with the fact that we didn’t have any young children with us.

The experience is very much geared toward younger kids, ideally those under 8, who would likely find it far more magical and engaging. For families traveling with older children—or adults only—I’d personally recommend Shrek’s Adventure, located just steps away. It’s energetic, interactive, genuinely funny, and surprisingly enjoyable for adults as well.
